Clothing Retirement
What to do with clothes you no longer need or want?
Sell
Putting in the time and effort to resell is a win-win. Sell your clothing through eBay or online thrift stores such as Depop, Poshmark, or thredUP. If you own high-end items, online luxury consignment, The RealReal, is a great option. Make sure that you check for quality and take high-resolution photos, then get ready to make some cash on the side.
Swap
When social distancing is a thing of the past, participate in a clothes swap! This type of exchange can be amongst friends, or in the open public with NYC’s Stop ’N’ Swap or Eventbrite. Bring your unwanted clothes and trade with your peers for new items! Everybody involved gets a refreshed wardrobe, and the articles of clothing gain a second life in rotation.
Reuse It
If you have clothes that are too damaged or worn out for the options above, repurpose them for crafts, pillows, or rags. Pinterest is a goldmine of DIY crafts for reusing old fabrics, from home decor, no-sew grocery bags, or for the more adventurous, new items of clothing. Blankets, quilts, bags, scarfs, and stuffing are all great ways to reuse your purchased items, and create a fun project for yourself at home!
