What to do with clothes you no longer need or want?

Donate

When your clothes are in good condition, donate them! With SCRAP, we pick up donations from your front door and reward you with discounts and giveaways from the leading sustainable brands in the world. If you’re not in New York City, there are hundreds of organizations that accept clothes and accessories for redistribution to those in need. Check out Dress For Success, Housing Works, and Soles4Souls.

Sell

Putting in the time and effort to resell is a win-win. Sell your clothing through eBay or online thrift stores such as Depop, Poshmark, or thredUP. If you own high-end items, online luxury consignment, The RealReal, is a great option. Make sure that you check for quality and take high-resolution photos, then get ready to make some cash on the side.

Swap

When social distancing is a thing of the past, participate in a clothes swap! This type of exchange can be amongst friends, or in the open public with NYC’s Stop ’N’ Swap or Eventbrite. Bring your unwanted clothes and trade with your peers for new items! Everybody involved gets a refreshed wardrobe, and the articles of clothing gain a second life in rotation.

Reuse It

If you have clothes that are too damaged or worn out for the options above, repurpose them for crafts, pillows, or rags. Pinterest is a goldmine of DIY crafts for reusing old fabrics, from home decor, no-sew grocery bags, or for the more adventurous, new items of clothing. Blankets, quilts, bags, scarfs, and stuffing are all great ways to reuse your purchased items, and create a fun project for yourself at home!

Schedule a SCRAP pick-up

If you want to donate your clothes to be recycled, reused, or redistributed but don’t know where or don’t have time to take care of it - we would be happy to take them! SCRAP makes this process simple for you. You can schedule a pickup for clothes you want to donate at the time that suits you best. We are currently doing pick-ups in NYC and Northern NJ, but will soon expand to more locations with your support.
